What we do: incident-free safety
Alchimie’s Safety Performance services are designed to cause a significant shift in safety behaviours throughout the organisation. We focus on leadership behaviour and culture rather than just risk management.
Outcomes achieved by our Safety Performance services typically include:
- Increased leadership and commitment, demonstrated at all levels
- Strong safety mindset, including the embedding of a lessons-learned routine
- Authentic zero-tolerance attitude to harm – people, plant/equipment and the environment
- Robust and high-quality safety/environment reporting
- Climate of care for one another’s well-being
Two approaches to Safety Performance
There are two distinct approaches to Safety Performance. The more familiar of these approaches deals with “Risk Management”, and is based on characterising risks according to their consequence and likelihood. Many leaders are comfortable with this approach, focusing on what is tangible – working on systems, processes and actions.
The second approach deals with culture and behaviour, and represents a less well trodden path. Yet, often, a real shift in performance requires leaders to lift their own level of visible leadership and commitment, and to enhance the engagement, leadership and accountability of the rest of their organisation. Many leaders find these areas more challenging and daunting; this is Alchimie’s domain and focus.
Perceptions drive behaviour
Sustainable change in culture begins with the organisation’s values and principles; these are then moulded – through personal beliefs, perspectives and ethics/morals – into the behaviour of employees. Alchimie believes that changes in behaviour must start with a review of the perceptions, beliefs and values held by individuals and groups.
For example, we use one-on-one interviews and 360 degree assessment diagnostics to identify gaps, and to prepare individual developmental pathways and coaching structures for building leaders.
Safety Performance as an Organisational Development Springboard
Success in changing an organisation’s culture unleashes boundless possibility for sustainable step-changes in performance across other dimensions (starting immediately with improvements in absenteeism and productivity). Thus investment in safety performance is an investment in organisational transformation and growth.
